Ervin Emmett Blackford, 88, of Marion

Ervin Emmett BlackfordErvin Emmett Blackford of Marion, Ohio, passed away Thursday evening, October 2, 2014. He was at home, surrounded by family.

Born November 3, 1925 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Emmett E. and Antonia Sand Blackford, Ervin moved to Marion in his teens. He married Avonelle Sifritt, daughter of Fire Chief Owen Sifritt, on Christmas Day, 1947 at Emanuel Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death.

Ervin spent his career in sales, in both Ohio and in Florida. A pilot who loved to fly, he served in the Civil Air Patrol while living in Florida. Ervin was a Navy Veteran of World War II. A man of strong faith, he was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church for many years.

He is survived by his sister, Lucille Buller of Worthington, his children, Vicki (Keith) Townsend of Westerville, Scott (Connie) Blackford of Marion, Mark (Lisa) Blackford of Anchorage, AK, and Cherri (Mark) Adams of Marion, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and his wife, Ervin was preceded in death by a brother, Norman E. Blackford, a grandson Mark E. Blackford, and a brother-in-law, Mahlon Buller.

The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday October 7, 2014 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M. Officiating the service will be Pastor Mark Schuring. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Monday October 6, 2014 from 5 to 8 P.M.
