Charlotte Arthur, age 87, of Marion, was welcomed into Heaven for being a faithful servant of the Lord and his people, Thursday evening, November 13, 2014, at the Genesis Presidential Care Center following an extended illness.
On October 10, 1927, Charlotte was born in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of the late Mont and Esther (Elliot) Roush.
For many years, Charlotte worked for the Marion County Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission to help better the lives of children in need.
Selfless in every way, Charlotte devoted her life to volunteerism. She began volunteering in 1964 at the Red Cross bloodmobile canteen and two years later started at Marion General Hospital. She dedicated her life to the hospital for 46 years, volunteering over 9500 hours, where she was honored to receive the Hospital Volunteer Service Award in 2012. In addition she has volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Mobile Meals, March of Dimes, and the Palace Theater.
A woman of faith, Charlotte was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, where she loved being a baby sitter for the church for over 42 years.
In her spare time, Charlotte loved to cook, bake, make candy and give it all away. Her hobbies were collecting state magnets, angels, cups and cookbooks. She had over 500 cookbooks, and said she “read them like novels!”
Charlotte made a difference and touched countless lives by always giving of her time and talents out of the goodness of her heart. She believed “the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, rather they must be felt with the heart.”
She will be missed by her three children: James (Linda) Arthur of Napoleon, David Arthur and Donald Arthur; Grandchildren: Michelle (Troy) Stiffler, Jeremy Arthur, Jennifer (Aaron) Mohr, Joshua (Brittney) Arthur, John Arthur and Sheena Arthur; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Stansbery of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, Edward Arthur; a brother, Ora Roush; three sisters: Dale Jacobs, Betty Swam and May Katherine Osborn; and former husband Edward A. Arthur.
Her family will greet friends from 1PM to 4PM on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion; Funeral Services honoring her life and countless good deeds will be held at 10:30AM on Monday at the Trinity Baptist Church, 244 S. Main St., Marion, with Dr. Richard Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
Charlotte requested for those attending visiting hours to bring in food for the food pantry rather than send flowers.
