Geraldine I. (Gibb) Weston, age 83, of Morral, Ohio passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at 7:00 am at Heartland of Marion.
Gerry was born on July 12, 1931, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Gilbert and Irene Gibb.
She is survived by her beloved husband Jim Weston, and six children: Katherine Yager,(partner William Cameron). of Orlando, Dan (Marilyn) Weston, of Morral, Jennifer (Howie) Bolton, of Nashville, Cynthia (Clif) Wenig, of LaRue, Randy (Carolyn) Weston, of Morral, and Brad (MaryPat) Weston, of Orlando. Gerry is survived by 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gerry is also survived by her sister Florence (Jack) Wilson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and was preceded in death by brothers Gilbert Gibb, George Gibb, Dan Gibb, and Paul Gibb.
Gerry graduated as valedictorian from Morral High School in 1949, and later attended classes at Ohio State University.
Gerry married her high school sweetheart, Jim Weston, on March 31, 1951. Gerry was fond of recounting that when she saw Jim walk into the Morral school for the first time, she said, “There’s the man I am going to marry.” Jim was a little slower coming along, and says he knew Gerry was “the one” when she arrived at the field where he was combining in her daddy’s new car, with a homemade butterscotch pie in tow.
After marrying, Jim and Gerry began a grain farming operation. Gerry was a devoted farm wife, driving tractor and grain trucks. Gerry passed away in the fall, her favorite season. She loved harvest time and the fall colors, and she and Jim spent many an hour driving around viewing the fall foliage, grain fields, and farming operations. Jim continues to operate the family farm to this day.
After the blizzard of 1978, Jim and Gerry began spending each winter in Florida, where four of their children resided.
Gerry had an unwavering faith in God, which she helped instill in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her strong faith helped her overcome life’s adversities, including polio, which she contracted at age 22, and despite living with the lingering effects, she went on to live a full and meaningful life. Gerry was a devoted lifetime member of St. Mary parish, where she sang in the funeral choir and also served as a Eucharistic minister. At the end of her life, Gerry was joyfully anticipating going to her heavenly “Home.” Gerry has now received the reward of her faith, and is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gerry was an excellent seamstress, and sewed clothing for her children and grandchildren. She also had a passion for helping others by sharing the message of better health through Reliv Nutrition. She enjoyed watching movies and loved to read, and must of read nearly all of the novels in the Marion library! Gerry was also an avid card player, and especially loved euchre, and in later years, euchre club was a much-anticipated highlight of her week.
The matriarch of a large and loving family, family was Gerry’s greatest passion and joy. She loved her daughter-in-laws and son-in-laws as her own children. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed watching them participate in basketball, cheerleading, track and cross country, musicals, plays, video productions, worship bands, piano recitals, and church activities, to name just a few activities. In recent years she kept up with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren via Facebook and its pictures! The entire family loved coming to the family farm in Ohio for gatherings where Gerry was a gracious hostess and wonderful cook! Gerry has left a lasting impact on each and every one of her family members, and her legacy lives on through all of them.
