Doris Evelyn (Christ) Buckley, age 92, passed away from an extended illness, Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at her Marion, Ohio residence.
She was born January 20, 1922 in Huntington, Indiana to Clara M. and Oscar B. Christ.
On November 23, 1941 she married Gordon Bruce Buckley in Niles, Ohio to whom she was married until his death on Christmas Day, 2010. The Reverend Howard Buckley, brother of Gordon, officiated their wedding which was the first wedding the Reverend Buckley performed.
Doris is survived by six children: Ronald Buckley (Sharon), Houston, Texas, David Buckley (Sandy) Marion, Donna Jacobs (James) Little Hocking, Ohio, Roseann Vivanco (Ignacio), McAllen, Texas, Robert Buckley (Joyce) Marysville, Ohio, Gary Buckley (Lynn) Marion, 16 grandchildren, one grand-daughter, Karen, deceased and 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Doris was an active member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, and served alongside her husband, Gordon, as church custodian and served on various church committees. She was also on the church bowling team, and was known for her perfect alto voice in Choir.
At home, she cared for her roses, enjoyed sewing, and rooting on her favorite baseball, football, and golf teams. Doris had expert knowledge of baseball trivia. She will be remembered by her family for her very dry sense of humor and her strict, but practical household management.
The family is very grateful to all of the Caregivers for their loving care for Doris during her time of in home care.
The Rev. Ralph Velazco will officiate the services and Pastor Matt Hancock will assist. Visitation will be Friday, December 5, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
