Carol E. Rizer, age 86, of Marion, died peacefully Wednesday morning, December 31, 2014, at Kindred Care Center surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.
On August 15, 1928, Carol was born in Marion, Ohio, the oldest of ten children of the late Guy and Pauline (Lotz) VanBuskirk. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1946.
Shortly following graduation, Carol married Osa Rizer Jr., whom everyone knew as “Jr.” on December 1, 1946. They shared 35 years of marriage and lovingly raised four children. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1982.
A loving homemaker, Carol’s first priority was always making sure her husband and children were taken care of. After Jr.’s passing, she used her seamstress talents, working for both Uhler’s and J.C. Penney’s.
She will be dearly missed by her four children: Joyce (Bill) Ellis of TX, Steve (Brenda L.) Rizer of Leesburg, FL, Jerry (Karen) Rizer, and Brenda Rizer, both of Elizabethtown, KY; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; two sisters: Marie Fields of LaRue, and Nanette (Robert) Blevins of Marion; two brothers: Dale (Ann) VanBuskirk of Morral, and Bill (Penny Richardson) VanBuskirk of Marion; and oodles of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Including her husband and parents, Carol was preceded in death by three sisters: Elda Hoch, Wilma Jacobs, and Margaret Willis; two brothers: Robert and Nelson VanBuskirk.
Her family will greet friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 3rd, at the Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow there at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
