Jack Vernon Higgins, age 90, of Marion passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, at 9:40 p.m. in the Marion Manor Nursing Home.
He was born in Marion, Ohio on February 27, 1924 to the late Willard and Susie (Dalton) Higgins.
Jack married the former Donna Ruth Fox in Marion on April 20, 1946 and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2013 in Marion.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He had been a member of Fite Memorial Baptist Church for over 64 years and was baptized there in 1951. Jack loved playing sports, especially softball, bowling, and golf. He was inducted into the Marion County Bowling Hall of Fame in 2007.
Before his retirement, Jack had been employed as a machinist and tool & die maker for the Marion Power Shovel Co. for over 44 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia (John) Morgan of Powell, OH.; a son, Jack E. (Sheryl) Higgins of Delaware, OH., five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death along with his parents and wife were three brothers.
Visiting hours will be held in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Pastor David Carlyle will officiate and burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery.
Donations in Jack’s name may be given to the Fite Memorial Baptist Church. The family wishes to extend a heart felt “Thank You” to all the staff of Marion Manor Nursing Home for the excellent and loving care he received every day.
