Manfried “Mannie” Saxton, 78, of Marion

Manfried "Mannie" SaxtonManfried “Mannie” Saxton age 78 of Marion, Ohio, passed away on Saturday January 10, 2015 at the Marion Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 18, 1936 in Marion to the late Hershel and Lucy (Cook) Saxton.

He was married to Marilyn Nachbar Saxton for forty-two years and she survives.

Mannie was retired from the former Marion Power Shovel Company after forty-two years of service where in his work there he was involved in the building of the Space Crawler at Cape Canaveral Fla. He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran and was an air craft mechanic while in the service. Mannie was a 1955 graduate of the former Morral High School where he excelled in sports. He also attended Berean Baptist Church. He loved to fish, but most of all, he dearly loved his grandchildren which were his pride and joy, and he was always proud to say that he was a “Proud Grandparent”.

Mannie also leaves behind a daughter, Nancy Saxton of Marion, Ohio, a son, Dan (Jolene) Saxton of Prospect, Ohio, three grandchildren; Brock (Amanda) Saxton, Brandon Saxton, and SiSi Brown as well as two great grandchildren, Kolby and Jakob. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Joan and Anna Marie, and two brothers; Billy and Jack.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday January 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Berean Baptist Church. Officiating the service will be Pastor Chris Peria and Rev. Ohmer Swart. Burial will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council. Friends may call also at the Berean Baptist Church on Tuesday January 13, 2015 from 4 to 7 P.M. All are encouraged to wear OSU attire to the calling and the service.
