Mildred E. “Millie” Osborne, age 104, of Mount Gilead, passed away Wednesday morning, January 21, 2015, at Woodside Village Care Center.
She was born in Morrow County on April 7, 1910, to the late Orrien J and Pearl E. (Taylor) Armstrong, and graduated from Iberia High School. Though it was fairly uncommon back then for a young lady, she played basketball at school and in the old Union building and was proud of it. Mildred later went on to attend and graduate from Beauty College in Indianapolis.
On October 9, 1929, Mildred married the late Howard O. Osborne in Columbus. Together they shared 57 years of marriage.
For many years, Mildred worked at the old Union Store in Mount Gilead. She also had her own Beauty Shop in Mansfield and helped with the family poultry farm where she often worked the roadside market selling her homemade apple butter.
Mildred will be dearly missed by her daughter, Darlene (Richard) Lewis of Caledonia; daughter-in-law, Beverly Osborne of Mount Gilead; six grandchildren: Robin (Mark) Garvin, Scott (Toy) Lewis, Marsha (Diego) Veitia, Dan (Martha) Osborne, Bonnie (Bill) Weberling, and Steve (Melissa) Osborne; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Gene Osborne; and brother, Gilbert Armstrong.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Rivercliff Cemetery, Mount Gilead, at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Plough officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
