The Great Ray Moore, age 66, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on February 3, 1948 in Portsmouth to Eligie D. and Essie May (Cantrell) Moore.
Ray had a strong work ethic and served in several positions during his life. He worked in a factory, he also spent time as a mover, a sales associate and a station worker.
He had many hobbies that occupied his time. He enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions. He was a gifted wood carver. Those who know The Great Ray, know that he was quite the joker and he loved to babysit the grandchildren whom he adored. He was also quite the collector. Among the things he collected where watches, dogs and old money. When he found time to relax, he loved to watch old westerns and the Twilight Zone.
Ray was a member of the Pentecostal Believers in Christ Church, where he served as a deacon.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn Kay Moore; his children: May Moore, Raymond Moore, Mary (Tom) Mullins, Angela (Wayne) Haines, David (Sharon) Moore and his special daughter Emily Moore; 14 grandchildren: Justin (Debbie) Spencer, Miyia (Bill) Ralston, Kayley Moore, Nicole (Julio) Godoy, Maranda Moore, Austin Moore, James (Cadence) Skeens, Zack Gilbert, Tomi Mullins, Cheyenne Moore, Cody Miller, Elenlyn Moore, Eli Moore and Dustin Moore; 11 great grandchildren; Sisters: Ollie Bass, Mandy Dunn and Diane Jones.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his children: Don Moore Jr., Steven Moore and Billy Ray Moore; his grandson Matthew H. Moore; Siblings: Bill Moore, Clyde Moore, Robert Moore, Adam Moore, George Moore, Don Moore, Kathryn Allen and Wanda Sue Gary.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be Saturday at the Pentecostal Believers in Christ Church, 347 N. Main St. Marion at 10AM with Pastor Clifford Hall officiating; Burial will be in the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
