Richard E. “Dick” Fields, age 81, of Marion, died peacefully Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, at Kingston Residence of Marion, Memory Care Unit.
On October 23, 1933, Dick was born in Marion, Ohio, the only child of the late Kenneth and Ruth (Adams) Fields. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1951. Later, he furthered his education at The Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957.
For over twenty seven years, Dick worked at the Marion Power Shovel as their traffic manager. He retired from there in 1994.
Shortly after retiring, Dick became an avid golfer. He golfed as often as he could, and even had a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed rooting on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians.
Giving back to his community, Dick was an active member of the Y-Men Service Club, where he held numerous offices for their organization and was honored to receive their William McGee Award in 1994. He also was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church.
Having a great sense of humor, Dick always kept you laughing with his dry sense of humor and quick wit.
He will be missed by his loving wife, Betty (Williams) Fields of Marion; three children: Tim Fields of Huron, Bob (Stacey) Fields of Delaware, and Lori (Tim) Childers of Marion; two step-children: David (Cheryl) Criswell of Mount Gilead, and Denise Criswell of Marion; six grandchildren: Kalee and Kaleb Childers, Chandler Fields, Graham Fields, and Ryan and Brad Criswell; and three great-grandchildren: Caleeyah Parker, and Gretchen and Julianne Criswell.
His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life will also be held there at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, with Pastor Keith Irey officiating. Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Y-Men Service Club, c/o Scholarship Fund or Handicap Ramp Fund, or Kingston Residence, c/o Memory Care Unit Activity Fund, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
