Cathy Ann Cook Detwiler, age 61, of Marion, died peacefully Monday morning, March 23, 2015, at Marion Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.
On March 13, 1954, Cathy was born in Marion, Ohio, the oldest of seven children of Josephine (Davis) Cook and the late Delbert Cook. She was raised in St. Mary Church, attended Marion Catholic Schools and graduated from Marion Harding High School.
For over ten years, Cathy worked as a medical encoder for Health First in Marion. While living in the state of Delaware, she had been the head of the credit card department at Mellon Bank, and she even had been a model in Japan.
During her younger years, Cathy loved being involved in the Marion Cadets, starting first in the color guard and working her way up to playing on the horn line.
Having a love for animals, Cathy always had a canine companion. She also enjoyed making jewelry, beading, and making various pieces of stain glass.
Including her mother, she will be dearly missed by her husband, Steven Detwiler of Marion, whom she married May 16, 1998; two children: Stephen Tyree Sr of Grove City, and Sheryl (David) Truszcienski of Newark, DE; four grandchildren: Stephen Tyree Jr., Jason Tyree, and Stephen and Larissa Truszcienski; five siblings: Christine (Chris) Sims of Marion, Margaret (Jon) Fausnaugh of Washington Courthouse, Mark Cook of Marion, James (Margaret) Cook of Pinehurst, NC, and Patricia Upchurch of Delaware; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her father, Cathy was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Cook.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26th, at the Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at the graveside in St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father Thomas Buffer officiating.
