Donald L. Demorest, 94, of Waldo

Donald L. Demorest, 94, of Waldo, died Sunday morning, March 29, 2015, at the Kingston Residence.

On December 10, 1920, Donald was born in Delaware, Ohio, one of five children of the late LeRoy and Tula (Clymer) Demorest. He attended Norton School and graduated from Waldo High School in 1938.

Shortly following graduation, Donald married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Rengert, on October 26, 1941, at her parent’s home. Soon after, they moved onto a farm outside of Waldo, where they have lived the past 73 years.

Donald was a lifelong farmer, and in his later years also enjoyed gardening. He and his brother and father introduced Charolais cattle to the area. He was always interested in trying new farming methods, and was proud his family is carrying on the family farm. He also served as a Waldo Township Trustee, on the Marion County Senior Fair Board, and was a member of the Waldo United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marjorie Demorest of Waldo; four children: Larry (Candy) Demorest of Waldo, Gary (Nancy) Demorest of Waldo, Donald Wayne (Mary) Demorest of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Diane (James) Goodrich of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren: Scott (Heather) Demorest of Waldo, Julie (Aaron) Clark of Brunswick, Erin Demorest of San Diego, California, Elizabeth Demorest of Washington, D.C., Erin (Craig Buschman) Alberty of Salt Lake City, Utah, Seth (Susan) Alberty of Des Moines, Iowa, Blair (James) Zavodny of Roswell, Georgia, and Austin (Alison) Goodrich of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Demorest; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Including his parents, Donald was preceded in death by four siblings: Irene Almendinger, Loma Kraner, LeRee Gearhiser, and Harold Demorest.

Memorial services honoring Donald’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1st, at the Waldo United Methodist Church, 141 S. Main St., Waldo, with Rev. Charles Temple officiating. His family will greet friends for an hour prior to his funeral service. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.

His family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the staff of Kingston Residence and MGH Hospice for their support.
