Dorothy “Dottie” Young, 82, of Marion

Dorothy “Dottie” YoungDorothy “Dottie” Young, age 82, a lifelong resident of Marion, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2015, at Marion General Hospital.

On May 31, 1932, Dottie was born in Marion, Ohio, the fourth of five children of the late Floyd and Frances (Miller) Wallace. She graduated from Meeker High School.

After earning a nursing degree from Tri-Rivers Career Center, Dottie worked as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for 18 years at the Marion Manor.

A woman of faith, Dottie was a member and former deacon at the First Presbyterian Church.

Cherishing moments spent with family and friends, Dottie loved having dinner with her high school classmates, meeting up with her many friends for any occasion, and visiting her special niece, Debbie (Pat) Winslow, for weeks at a time at their home in Pennsylvania. She especially loved rooting on her two adored granddaughters at all of their sporting events, and she was truly their “#1 fan”.

A “spunky and outgoing woman”, Dottie had an “endless sense of humor”…you never knew what she would say next. She also had a warm, tender and giving heart.

She will be dearly missed by her three sons: Brad (Denise) Taylor of Edison, Ralph (Carol) Young of Marion, and Dean Young of Ashley; two granddaughters: Sophia (Spencer) Galloway and Emily Young; a brother, Gene (Doris) Wallace of Montana; former husband, Charles Taylor of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by three siblings: James Wallace, Virginia Peak, and Delores “Babe” Knickle; and her second former husband, John Young.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 2nd, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating her life will follow at 6 p.m., with Rev. Rob Howard officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 143 S. Prospect St., Marion, OH 43302.

Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Dottie’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
