Joey E. Mahle, age 69, of Caledonia died peacefully early in the morning on the first day of spring, March 20, 2015 at his home.
He was born on July 2, 1945 in Wellston, Ohio to John Mahle and Rosetta Marie Davis Thacker who preceded him in death as did his adored step father; William Robert Thacker.
Joey was a proud man, husband and father who held many jobs and possessed many skills working hard with blue collared men and women. He was retired from General Mills in Martel following his many years working at Marion Power Shovel until their closing.
Joey lived the past 17 years in the Caledonia area on his beloved acreage. Many evenings and weekends were spent on the deck with his wife; Stephanie, their dog; Sadie and cats Whiskey and Bubba… with Joey’s mantra being “I’m a lucky man”. He enjoyed caring for his yard and then hopping onto two wheels and going to see his friends to catch up on local news and have a cold one at the American Legion or The Wet Spot. On warm mornings, Joey could be seen cruising the back roads on his Harley. Joey enjoyed over 30 years of deer hunting in southern Ohio with friends he considered family. He also considered his “biker” community friends his family as well.
Joey is survived by his loving wife; Stephanie Yuhas Mahle, his ex-wife and family friend; Terri Mahle, 3 sons; Aaron (Donna) Mahle of Key West, FL, Jason Mahle of North Carolina and Ryan (finance, Megan Bartelheim) Mahle of Dublin, 2 stepsons; Curt (Jayme) Massie of Blacklick and Ryan (Lauren) Massie of New Albany, 2 brothers; John Robert (Virginia) Mahle of Jackson and Robert Lee Thacker of Marion, his sister; Sandra Kay Thacker (David) Leeming of Batavia, IL, 2 step-grandchildren; Ella Massie and Samantha Massie, both of New Albany; in-laws; Dick and Pat Yuhas of Bucyrus, sisters-in-law; Melanie (Rod) Rowlinson of Bucyrus and Lorie (Chuck) Roach of Xenia.
To celebrate the life we shared with Joey, a gathering of friends and family will be hosted on Saturday, April 4, 2015 beginning at 11:00 AM at the American Legion Post #401 in Caledonia.
Stephanie wishes to thank the entire Caledonia Community for the loving show of support through the last 4 years of Joe’s life and to the members of the American Legion & Women’s Auxiliary, to Darrell and Lori McCoy and all patrons of both places. “Your kindness will never be forgotten and always appreciated. On one of Joey’s last days, he requested that rather than flowers and gifts being given in his memory, he suggested donations be made to The National Children’s Cancer Society of which he was a long time supporter.
