Mary K. Wolfinger, a lifelong resident of Morrow County, passed away at the Kingston Residence in Marion, Sunday morning, March 1, 2015. She was 96.
On May 23, 1918, she was born in Mount Gilead, the youngest of four children of the late Robert Vole and Bertha I. (Henry) Pearson. She graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1936.
Mary K. married John W. “Bill” Wolfinger on March 19, 1942. They shared over 53 years together before he preceded her in death on June 23, 1996.
For many years, Mary K. worked as a secretary for H.P.M. and at the Morrow County Courthouse.
Mary K. was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Gilead, where she had taught Sunday school and served on many boards and committees through the years. At the time of her death, she was the oldest and longest living member. She and her late husband also held life memberships in the Morrow County Historical Society.
She will be dearly missed by her two sons: John W. Wolfinger of Atlanta, GA, James P. Wolfinger and his wife, Sandee, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Foye E. Pearson, Robert Pearson Jr.; and a sister, Osee Faye Corwin.
Mary K’s family will greet friends from 4- 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating her life will be held there at 11:00 am on Friday, March 6, 2015, with Rev. Joshua L. Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
