Dora Beatrice “Bea” Meadows, 97, of Marion

Dora Beatrice “Bea” MeadowsDora Beatrice “Bea” Meadows, age 97, of Marion, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening, April 7, 2015, at her residence.

On June 29, 1917, Bea was born in Cliff, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Orville and Lizze (Horn) Crisp. She was graduated from Auxier High School in Kentucky in 1937.

Shortly following graduation, Bea married, John Meadows I, on March 5, 1938, in Hardy, Kentucky. Then, in 1952, Bea and John moved with their four children to Marion, Ohio, to get away from the coal mines. After 48 years of marriage he preceded her in death on October 29, 1986.

In addition to being a loving homemaker, Bea worked at the Highway Hotel in Marion as a cashier and night clerk. Later, she worked at Fraizer’s Plastic Film as a seamstress, until her retirement in 1963.

A woman of faith, Bea was an active member of the Victory Center Church of God, she was president of the Ladies Willing Women, now the Ladies Ministries. She also was a Sunday School teacher, worship leader, and did anything that was needed in the church.She also enjoyed reading, crocheting and crossword puzzles.

To say Bea was particular would be an understatement.  Bea took pride in having a spotless home. She also was a very classy lady, who always dressed to impress, even wearing heels into her late 80’s.  Bea would want to be remembered as a woman who took great care of her home and family. Her family will forever be grateful for her.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children: John (Charlotte) Meadows II, Lora Lea Dawson, Betty (Jerry) Yancey, and Robert Meadows, all of Marion; 8 grandchildren: Leanne (Buford) Wheeler, Todd (Beth) Meadows, Charles (Beth) Sisson, Tanya (David) Leonard, Dr. Scott (Tina) Yancey, Kara (Bishop Kevin) Swiney, Brock (Nicole) Meadows, and Audra Meadows; 22 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and counting; a brother, Isadore (Lee) Shell; a sister, Sue McLain, both of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Bea was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Glora Gay Meadows; a grandson, John Nelson Sisson; three brothers: James Crisp Jr., Jack Crisp, and Bill Shell Jr.; and a sister, Ellena Turner.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, April 10th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at the Victory Center Church of God, 1190 E. Fairground Rd., Marion, with Bishop Kevin Swiney and family officiating. Burial will follow in Meeker Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Victory Center Church of God, Heartland Hospice or the donor’s choice and they may be sent to in care of the funeral home.
