Ruth Joseph, age 79, of Meeker, died peacefully Saturday morning, April 11, 2015, at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky following a several month illness.
On September 23, 1935, Ruth was born in Saylersville, Kentucky, the third of six children of Sherman and Cliffie (Holiday) Blevins.
While growing up, Ruth spent a lot of time with a young fellow from the neighborhood, Homer Joseph. Once they were old enough, they got married on October 19, 1954, and started their family. They moved to Indiana for a short time, before moving to Marion, Ohio, where he found work with the Marion Water Company. They cherished their 60 years together and lovingly raised four children.
In addition to being a caring homemaker, Ruth worked for several years at the Community MedCenter Hospital in housekeeping and also for Central Supply.
A woman of faith, Ruth was a member of the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, and formerly she was a member of the Home Missionary Holiness Church, where often she sang a cappella.
Very supportive of her husband, Homer, Ruth often helped him with the Marion Masonic Lodge #70, by making and serving meals and helping with anything they needed.
With a love for the beach, Ruth and Homer often traveled to the Carolinas to enjoy some sand beneath their toes. Ruth also enjoyed quilting blankets and crocheting afghans for her family and friends, and reading a good romance novel or watching her favorite soap operas.
Ruth’s proudest achievement in life was her family. She deeply loved her family and would spoil them with their favorite home cooked meals as often as she could. No one left her home hungry.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Homer Joseph; four children: Michael (Laura) Joseph, Theresa (Lawrence) Hendricks, all of Meeker, Andrew (Terry) Joseph of Marion, and Hager “Brad” (Lesa) Joseph of Meeker; five grandchildren: April Joseph, Michelle (Tim) Bidwell, Danielle (Jamie) Berridge, and Tyler and Andrew Joseph; 8 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three siblings: Eva “Pet” (Seldon) Holiday of North Carolina, Richard “Dick” Blevins of Indiana, Gary (Janice) Blevins of Marion; a brother-in-law, Bill Arnette of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two siblings: Victor Coffee and Joan Arnette.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will also be held there at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with Pastor Steve DeWebber officiating. Burial will follow in Meeker Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
