Stephen C. Messenger, age 74, of Galion, went to be with the Lord April 19, 2015 at 10 PM. He passed peacefully while surrounded by family and loved ones.
He was born December 17, 1940 to the late Charles and Marjorie Messenger. After serving in the Navy, he worked at Tecumseh, then went on to retire from Honda.
Steve was an active member of the American Legion, VFW and the Moose. He loved sports. He played them all in school and continued playing softball, bowling, and golf well into his 60’s.
Steve will always be remembered as the one who always stood up for what he believed in, even if it meant standing alone. He had such a love for life. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
He leaves behind a son Kevin Messenger of Galion, daughter Melissa Messenger-Long of Marion, only grandchild Caitlin Long of Marion, brother Doug (Kathy) Messenger of Florida, two nieces Tracy (Jay) Williams of Marion and Holly (Nathan) Sandusky of Richwood, and two special young men he called his boys, John Schwab and Shawn Dunn, both of Marion.
He was preceded in death by a brother Randy Messenger and son-in-law George Underwood.
A memorial (celebration of his life) will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MANNA Ministries, where longtime friend of Steve’s family, Tom Beckel, is the pastor.
Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Home, a division of Snyder Funeral Homes, is honored to be serving the family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
