E. Beth Mitchell, age 72, of Galion and formerly of Mount Gilead, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015.
On October 25, 1942, Beth was born in Libya, North Africa, the youngest of ten children of the late Dominic and Angela (Fadel) DeLorenzo. She was raised in Italy, where she graduated from the Princess Giovana High School and later earned a degree in nursing.
While working as a nurse in Naples, Italy, Beth met a U.S. Special Services Agent, Dean L. Mitchell, who had been injured while in the military. Falling for each other in the hospital, when Dean returned to good health, they were married on March 13, 1965, in Sicily, Italy. She then joined him when he returned home to care for his farm in Mount Gilead.
Together, Beth and Dean farmed many acres of their own and others land, where she helped with everything, with one exception…running the combine. After forty four wonderful years of marriage, Dean preceded her in death on November 4, 2009.
For many years, Beth volunteered for the American Red Cross and Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility. She also was a member of the Morrow County Farm Bureau, and the Elks, Moose, AmVets and Country Club in Galion.
She will be missed by her son, Donald “Dale” Mitchell of Mount Gilead; best friends: Hope Lacy, John Sharp, Phil Longstreth and many more dear friends; and two beloved cats: Sean and Geffy.
Services honoring her life will be observed on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville, with Pastors Ray and Don Linn officiating.
Rather than flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morrow County Humane Society, P. O. Box 298, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
