Robert Shumway Spencer, 82, of Richwood

Robert Shumway SpencerRobert Shumway Spencer, 82 of Richwood died Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.  He was born October 15, 1932, in Paxton, Illinois, to the late William Colwell and Pearl Lauretta (Lower) Spencer.

On May 3, 2003, he married the former Sue Ann Gibson in Fort Worth, Texas, and she survives.

Bob was proud of his military career, serving in Korea, Viet Nam, and being named Recruiter of the Year before he retired in 1965. He had his private pilot’s license and loved flying. He was happy living in the country, restored a 1950 Ford tractor, and was having a 1955 Chevy restored. He loved gardening and being on the tractor with his youngest Spencer Boy Dog Cody.

He was a member of Pharisburg United Methodist Church, Mt. Carmel #303 F&AM, VFW, and the American Legion.  He enjoyed playing BINGO with Bill Paver and other friends at the Richwood Civic Center, and loved delivering Mobile Meals and working the Morey Desk at Memorial Hospital in Marysville.

He enjoyed spending winters in Florida at Sunnybreeze Christian Fellowship.  He spent many happy hours working jigsaw puzzles and playing with his dog, Cody.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Debra (Jerry) Tuggle, Weatherford,Texas; Vickie (Dusty) Gunter, Azle, Texas; two step-sons, Rick Winton, El Paso, Texas; Gary (Jayne) Winton, Chesapeake, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Susan Spencer, Peoria, Illinois; Ma-in-law, Dolly Gibson, El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren, Michael, Robin and Zachary; and his special 4-legged son, Cody.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Judy Cramer officiating.  Burial will follow in Maskill Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home in Richwood where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00.
