Roy L. “Blackie” Burk age 90 of Wheelersburg, Ohio formerly of Marion and Green Camp, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born May 16, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Roy R. Burk and Dorothy (Albaugh) Burk Davis.
Blackie was married to Maxine M. (Fields) Burk, she preceded him in death in 2007 and Rose (Doles) Burk January, she preceded him in death in 2012.
Roy was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII, a member of American Legion Post for 66 years and was employed at MCI for 15 years as the assistant food director. He was also very active as a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Troop Leader in Larue, Troop #36.
He is survived by his sons, Bill Burk of Marion, OH., Clyde “Pat” Burk Sr. of Wheelersburg, OH., step children, Charles (Christine) Thompson of Marion, OH., Kenneth (Pat) Thompson of Marion, OH., Ruthann Dunn of Marion, OH., Mary (Russ) Ward of Marion, OH., Donna (Mike) Queen of Portsmouth, OH., step son in law, George Thompson, Jim Blanton of Marion, OH., step daughter in law, Geneva Thompson of Marion, OH., 47 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 5 step children, Fred Thompson, Doris Thompson, Alice Blanton, Faye (Terry) Welch, Leonard Thompson.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 from 11 – 1 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 PM Friday, June 26, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. George Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Larue Cemetery with military honors conducted by Marion County Veterans Council. After the service it was Roy’s wishes to donate his flag to Elgin High School.
