Terry Darnell, 65, of Marion

Terry DarnellTerry Darnell age 65 of Marion, Ohio passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Presidential Center after a courageous 11 month battle with glioblastoma.

Terry was born in Marion, Ohio on August 11, 1949 to the late William O. Darnell and Mary Irene Darnell who survives.

She fought her battle under the tender, loving care of her surviving sisters, Patti Darnell of Marion, B.J. “Gus” Dunn of Carey, Judy Solomon of Marion, Sam Blevins of Upper Sandusky and her loving mother, Mary Darnell.

Terry graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1967 and was a 22 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring as Master Chief. She saw the world from the docks of the USS Holland and was stationed on Guam, in Hawaii and at several stations in the States. Terry was the first female Company Commander of a male recruit company for the Navy. She was also an expert marksman, loved playing softball and basketball and was so good she was invited to play on the men’s fast pitch team in the Navy.

At 17, she was the Player of the Year for the girl’s city softball league.

Terry was strong, athletic, loving, adventurous and generous. She loved scuba diving, reading adventure novels, tending to her dog, Dukey and was a life member of Amvets Post #777 in Upper Sandusky.

Terry was preceded in death by her father, William Darnell in February of 2015. She is also preceded by her grandparents, Richard and Martha Darnell and Gertrude and Herbert Sink and her niece Brandy Darnell.

She is survived by not only her mother and sisters, but also by her aunt and uncle, Pam and Jim Hooper, aunt Carolyn Paul, nieces Kelly Ellcessor and Shannon Dunn, nephews Cory Darnell and Dakota Dunn, several great nieces and nephews and two great-great nephews and a lot of friends.

She leaves a hole in all our lives. As were her wishes, there will be no services for Terry.
