Virginia “Ginnie” Telfer, 89, of Marion

Virginia “Ginnie” Telfer passed away June 1, 2015 at the Marion Manor.

She was born June 27, 1925 in York County Pennsylvania to the late Nora and Harry W. Kilgore.

In 1948 she married John D. “Jack” Telfer who preceded her in death on June 1, 2010.

She was also preceded in death by her brother; Richard M. Kilgore and his wife; Ruth Kilgore, a sister; Marian J. Thompson and her husband; Everett Thompson.

She is survived by identical twin sons; Carleton K. Telfer (Patricia) of Marion, OH. and Carlyle H. Telfer (Annette) of Pittsburg, KN., grandson; Jonathan E. Telfer of Columbus, OH. and granddaughter; Kayla L.Telfer of Delaware, OH.

Also surviving Ginnie are brother-in-law; James Earl Telfer and wife; Mary of Mifflintown, PA., nieces; Bridgett (John) Prugh of New Hampshire, Cynthia Thompson of Lancaster, PA., Julie Thompson of Arvada, CO.,Launa Kowalcyk (Tom) of State College, PA., and nephews; Joe (Norma) Leach and James Telfer of Mifflin, PA.

Ginnie graduated from Millersville University, Millersville (Lancaster) PA. She also attended Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan as a graduate student.

She taught English, Social Studies, and Humanities in Thompsontown, PA., Wayne, MI., and Greenburg, N.Y. Ginnie also taught English in Abadan, Iran from 1957-1959 at AIT (Abadan Institute of Technology) while Jack taught Engineering. “Her Boys” as she called them remained lifelong friends and were considered as part of her “family”.

Ginnie was a devoted housewife, educator, volunteer, and friend to many. Upon her arrival in Marion she became involved with volunteer work with Twig I, Harding Center Board, adult Sunday School teacher at Epworth, LeMercure, and Christmas at the Stengel True Museum. She was a life member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church serving on various committees in the West Ohio Conference.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church or to the Marion Tall Grass Trail which Jack was instrumental in starting.

Calling hours will be held in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held in the Epworth United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the Marion Cemetery. Rev. David Hoffman and Rev. Daniel Kiger will officiate.
