Catherine L. “Katie” Sens, age 92, formerly of Marion, died peacefully Sunday morning, July 26, 2015, at the Sanctuary of Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, with her loving family by her side.
On October 16, 1922, Katie was born in Marion, Ohio, the second of eleven children of the late Leo and Clara (Zink) Cusick. She graduated from Pleasant High School in 1941.
Following high school, Katie attended Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse.
Katie married James Sens on April 26, 1947. Wed for 52 years, they raised five children. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2000.
Katie lived a life of service to her church and community. A lifelong member and Eucharistic minister of St. Mary Church, she was active in the bereavement choir, the R.C.I.A. program, and was a religious education volunteer.
Katie participated in the Marion Senior Center Choral Group and Artisan’s Guild.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Timothy (Elyse) Sens of Austin, TX, Mary Catherine (Jerry) Azara of Lincroft, NJ, Ellen Marie McBride of Dublin, OH, Christopher James of Fayatteville, AR, and Emilie (Dan Cobb) Deskins of Port Charlotte, FL; 12 grandchildren: Shawn Vasich, Chloe Sens, Anthony (Torrie) Azara, Christopher Azara, Jonathan Azara, Dr. Erin (Dr. Jeremy) Catherman DDS, Stephanie McBride, Jennifer (Josh) Geiger, Kaitlyn James, Anna James, Jamie (Brian) DeSantis, and Matthew (Cydney) Evans; five great-grandchildren: Trey, Grace, Jack, Shea and Ava; two brothers: Dean (Hazel) Cusick and Robert “Cork” Cusick, both of Marion, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Katie was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard “Dick”, John and James Cusick; and five sisters: Mary McGinnis, Rosemary Granger, Rosemarie Figerel, Jane Simpson, and Lucille Cusick.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29th, at the Gunder/Hall & Snyder Funeral Home, 347 W. Center St., Marion, with prayer services at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, at St. Mary Church, 251 N. Main St., Marion. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
