Marie C. Williams, age 87, of Marion and formerly of New Jersey, died Friday morning, July 17, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a two year battle with cancer.
On April 29, 1928, Marie was born in Warren County, North Carolina, the youngest of three daughters of the late Frank Williams and Lucy (Rogers) Alston.
A loving homemaker, Marie took pride in raising her children and caring for her family. In her younger days, she worked at a dry cleaner working their steam press.
In 1990, Marie moved to Marion, Ohio, from Passaic, New Jersey, with her loving companion of many years, Leroy Williams.
A woman of faith, Marie was a member of the True Faith Church of God, where she had served as an usher.
With a love for animals, Marie loved to be surrounded by her beloved cats, especially her cat, Maxine. She also loved cooking and preparing big meals for her family.
The true matriarch of the family, Marie was the rock everyone in the family turned to for wisdom, advice and unconditional love. She was always there to help. Being known for her caring personality, Marie was always lending a helping hand for those in need. She also absolutely loved raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her daughters: Christine (Michael) Holder of Marion, Rita Williams of Marion, and Juanita (Deon) Williams-Jones of Marion; 15 grandchildren: Hakeem ( Megan) Jones, Kwadir Jones, Khaheem Williams, Sabrina Williams, Adrianne Williams, Ailayshia Williams, Ainyjjah Randle, Alshaydea Williams-Rogers, Montez Walls, Marquis Adams, Markeysha Adams, William Holder, Deshawn Wilson, Curtis Gartrell, Derrick Gartrell; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her companion, Leroy Williams; her son, Arthur Walls Jr.; and two sisters: Mary Plummer and Martha Ann Williams-Miller.
Her family will greet friends from Noon – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22nd, at the True Faith Church of God, 599 E. Fairground St., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow there at 1 p.m. with Elders Willie McGary and Michael Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
