Carolyn F. Smith, 69, of Marion

Carolyn F. SmithCarolyn F. Smith, age 69, of Marion, died unexpectedly late Saturday evening, August 29, 2015, at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends following a brief illness.

On August 27, 1946, Carolyn was born in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of Roy Daum and Margaret (Peterson) Hopkins.  A lifelong resident of Marion, she graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1964.

In the fall of 1964, while Carolyn was working at the L & K Restaurant, she would take care of the teenagers who used the L & K as their local hangout.  She had to wait on one young gentleman more than others, Donald Smith, who always noticed there was something “special” about her.  Soon thereafter, they were married on April 10, 1965.  Together they shared fifty wonderful years of marriage, and lovingly raised a daughter, Lindsay.

Although Carolyn never settled into one lifelong career, she most loved working at Howard Swink Advertising as one of their research analysts.  She also enjoyed working as an admitting clerk at Marion General Hospital.

With a love art and creativity, Carolyn had a passion for making arts and crafts for over sixty years.  She was an experienced seamstress and knitter, and was willing to try any project once.  She loved to draw, and tried to get Don to take her to beautiful places for her sketch.  She was a member of the Creator’s Guild in Marion.  She also has a huge heart for animals and cherished her kitties, always making sure Phoebe gets her “morning neck rub.”

Having an inquisitive mind, Carolyn fell in love with the internet, putting her Kindle Fire to good use, continuing to learn each and every day of her life.

A woman of faith, Carolyn enjoyed attending Abundant Life Church, especially appreciating Rev. Doug Ford.  She also enjoyed the many visits at Heartland of Marion by Rev. Bill Middleton of Grace Baptist Church.

Vibrant, playful, unpredictable, and sweet are just a few of the many ways to describe Carolyn and how special of a woman she was.  Despite many battles with her health, she never let anything get her down.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald Smith; daughter, Lindsay Smith; her parents: Roy Daum and Margaret Hopkins; her best friend of forty six years, Marilyn (Steve) Roseberry; her surrogate daughter and grandchildren: Jaime Jeffers and her children: Tate, Mae and Josh; four half sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service for Carolyn will be announced.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all of the staff and residents at Heartland of Marion, for their tender loving care of Carolyn and for making her feel at home and like family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland of Marion, c/o Activities Fund, 400 Barks Rd. W., Marion, OH 43302.

Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Carolyn’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
