Diann K. Shaw, age 58, of Marion and formerly of Lima, Ohio, died early Sunday morning, October 18, 2015, at Ohio State University, James Cancer Center following a several year battle with cancer.
On January 6, 1957, Diann was born in Lima, Ohio, the youngest of three children of the late Richard “Dick” and Rose M. (Perrine) Shaw. She was raised in the Southside Church of Christ and graduated from Shawnee High School, both in Lima.
Believing in the value of education, Diann furthered herself earning her bachelor’s degree from Miami University, and her master’s degree from the College of Mount St. Joseph.
Upon her graduation, Diann found a home at Marion Harding High School in Marion, Ohio, where she taught Business & Accounting for thirty-two years. Despite retiring from Marion Harding, she continued teaching at Marion Technical College for the past three years. She truly had a passion for teaching, cherishing her students, and sharing a mutual respect with them.
Very close with her parents, Diann was always there for them, often making the trip to Lima several times a week. Always putting their needs before her own, she also cared for them in their final years. Being close to her father, meant she was also raised with a golf club in her hand. Like her father, she was an avid golfer, a passion they shared as a family and with her friends. She also loved watching the golf channel.
Having a huge heart for animals, Diann always had several cats and dogs in her home that she had rescued. Also, anyone who knew Diann, knew she loved listening to classical music and was an avid reader, even keeping a reading journal with special notes to remember for her readings.
For Diann, her friends weren’t just friends, they were her family. Ever since high school, she had a very close knit group of friends, who were there for one another through thick and thin. Together they enjoyed many special travel adventures, including yearly trips to Cleveland, shopping, and weekly get togethers.
Special in so many ways, and for so many reasons, Diann will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered as a smart, driven, independent and caring woman, who put everyone else in her life first.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry (Karen) Shaw of North Las Vegas; a sister-in-law, Janice Shaw of Lima; seven nieces and nephews: Joseph Shaw, Julie Cole, David Fisher, Rachael Pugsley, Jason Shaw, Joseph A. Shaw, and Kathryn Powell; the very dearest of friends: Kathy and Joe Brigmon, Kathy Goodman, Sharon Walker, Patty Ionno, Dr. Julie Nunley, and numerous more, cherished friends.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Shaw; nephew, Mark Shaw; and niece, Sherry Imbody.
A service celebrating Diann’s life will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 25th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Prior to her services, family and friends will be visiting there from 2 – 5 p.m.
