George Matejko age 99 of Marion, Ohio and formerly of Johnstown, Pa., passed away on Saturday October 31, 2015 at the Marion General Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1916 in Johnstown, Pa. to the late John and Mary (Szvoreny) Matejko.
On June 26, 1941 he married Mary L. Sosenko and she preceded him in death in November of 2014.
George was retired as a Rigger, a high iron worker for forty years retiring from Bethlehem Steel Corp.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion and was quite fond of working with electronics. George was also a WWII U.S. Army Veteran.
He sadly leaves behind a daughter and two sons; JoAnn (David) White of Prospect, Ohio, John (Marianne) Matejko of West River, Maryland, and George (Ann) Matejko of Carmen, Idaho. Two grandchildren and a step-granddaughter and three great grandchildren survive as well; Anne (Mark) Yaussy, Emily (Van) Creasap, Angela (Patrick) Geddes, Maddison Yaussy, Brady Yaussy, and Quinn Creasap. Also surviving are two sisters; Connie Davis of Houston, Tx., and Barbara (John) Podvojski of Johnstown, Pa.
Besides his parents and his wife, George was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother; Anne Matejko, Mary Matejko, Helen VanGorder, and Michael Matejko.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday November 4, 2015 at 11:30 A.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Father Thomas Buffer. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery with Military Rites by the Marion County United Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 A.M.
