Leigh Tackett passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 4, 2015 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. As anyone who knew her can attest, she was “39 and holding”. She was born in Ironton, Ohio to Joseph and Bessie McGlone Sanders.
Leigh grew up in Ironton, Ohio where she graduated from Ironton High School. After high school, she moved to Marion, Ohio and worked for Tecumseh Products. Upon Tecumseh closing, she worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation in Delaware, Ohio, where she worked until being forced to take a medical retirement. Her zest for life was exemplified by the fact that she beat lung cancer nearly seventeen years ago when she took her medical leave.
Leigh married Earl Douglas Tackett in 1967 in Wise, Virginia. They were happily married for 48 years, something that is a true testament in todays age to the love they shared.
Leigh loved to travel, and and was believed to have never met a stranger. She has many close friends all over the country, some of them whom she met only once and kept in touch with them through the years nonetheless. She also enjoyed “going in town” as she told Earl, whether in town was visiting friends at bingo, or going to the casino with Kim, Kevin, Caitlyn, or Derrec.
The thing she loved to do above all else was spend time with her grandchildren. That’s where the real magic happened. There was never anything she wouldn’t do, or distance she wouldn’t travel to spend time with them. “Memom” ,as they called her, could always be trusted to provide any and all they things they wanted, regardless if they needed them or not. It would take a small army to begin to do the things “memom” did for her grandchildren.
Leigh was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Bessie; her brothers Joseph (Bub), Paul, Jessie, and Frank; and lost a piece of her self with the death of her grandson Derrec.
Leigh is survived by her loving husband Earl of Marion, Ohio; her daughter Kim(John) of Marion; her son Kevin of Toledo, OH; granddaughter Caitlyn, grandson Braden, and great-grandson Cayden; and her loving nieces, nephews, and numerous other loving relatives.
Visitation will be held at Boyd Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., Marion, OH from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday November 9, with a memorial service at 7 pm celebrating Leigh’s life. Burial will be at a later date.
