Arnold “Arnie” D. Johnston, 79, of Delaware, passed away at Grady Memorial Hospital on Sunday, December 20, 2015.
He was born in West Liberty, Kentucky on June 6, 1936, the son of the late Harlan John Johnston and Gladys Marie (Litteral) Johnston.
Arnie grew up in Marion, Ohio and joined the United States Army in 1952. He was stationed in the United States and Germany. Arnie worked for Tecumseh Products in Marion, and served as Union Chairman for UAW Local 750. Arnie loved horses and his passion for harness racing began over 40 years ago. He was an owner, trainer, and driver; and a member of the USTA and OHHA.
Arnie is survived by his wife Carol (Noggle) Johnston; four sons, John and Alan Johnston, and Don and Gary Campbell; three daughters, Cathy Thacker, Laura Searway, and Sarah Campbell; two brothers, Sonny and Harry Johnston; one sister, Cletus “Dood” Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Arnie is preceded in death by one son, Dean “Penrod” Johnston; and one sister Helen Draper.
A celebration of life will be held at the Log Cabin at the Delaware County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.
