Charles E. Laucher, age 87, of near Waldo, died Monday morning, November 30, 2015, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
On August 21, 1928, Charles was born at home on the family farm, one of seven children of the late John and Bessy (Rush) Laucher. He attended Waldo Schools, until he was needed to help at the farm.
Charles dedicated his entire life to caring for the farm, both growing crops and as a swine producer. He was proud to have his son, Alan, carry on the family’s legacy of farming.
On September 4, 1949, Charles married Betty Dawson, at Calvery Evangelical United Brethren Church in Marion. Since their marriage, he has resided at the Laucher homestead. They shared over fifty six years of marriage, and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2005.
Very active at his church, Charles was over a sixty year member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was involved as past financial secretary and a deacon. He was involved in many other community activities, such as: Marion County Fairboard member since 1967, past 4-H advisor, past president of Marion County Pork Producers, he was over a fifty year member of the Marion County Agricultural Society, and was a Marion County Landmark director.
Never wanting to leave the farm, when Charles wasn’t farming he would be tending to his garden, where he would grow a bounty of tomatoes, more tomatoes, strawberries, hot peppers and anything else that sparked his interest.
Charles will be dearly remembered as a kind hearted man, who had an ornery streak and loved to tease his family and many friends.
He will be missed by his son, Alan (Mary Ann) Laucher of near Waldo; daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Tumbleson; five grandchildren: Andrew (Suzanna) Laucher, Whitney (Kenneth) Hall, Adam (Christine) Laucher, Ravae (Bret) Thomas and Hope Griest; eight great-grandchildren: Dawson, Grady, Bodie, Paisley, Abel, Charlie, Jackson and Gunner; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Including his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by six siblings: Ruby Williams, Dorothy Isler, Geneva Neal, Esther Hinaman, John Laucher Jr., and Bill Laucher.
His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, at the Trinity Lutheran Church (address below) with Pastor Ed Wahl officiating. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
