Dr. David Loren Miller, 87, of Delaware

Dr. David Loren Miller (Dave), age 87 of Delaware, Ohio passed away with grace on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 21, 1928 in Lakewood, Ohio to the late Paul and Hazel (Rudd) Miller. On July 31, 1955 he married Rosalie (Lyon) Miller. Prior to his marriage to Rosalie, Dave served in the Korean War and was introduced to Rosalie, by her cousin, Jack Reece, a fellow U.S. Army man.

Dave excelled in academics from a very early age and began Kindergarten at age four.  The pinnacle of his academic achievements was earning a Doctorate of Philosophy from The Ohio State University in 1968.   Dr. Miller worked in academia for decades, serving as the Marion, Ohio, Assistant Superintendent of Schools and retiring in 1988 as the Delaware, Ohio, Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Miller lived his life as a quiet, yet strong man, whose guiding principles were love, respect and consideration.  He loved his family fiercely, enjoyed travel, and loved to golf and play Bridge, Euchre, and Scrabble.   Dave loved music.  During his lifetime he performed in a community musical with his daughter, Nancy and was an active member of the Willow Brook Singers.  Dr. Miller was a community leader, during his lifetime.  Notably, he served as the President of the Delaware Ohio Area Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Rotary Clubs of Delaware and Marion, Ohio (served as President), and President of the Red Cross Board of Marion, Ohio.   Dr. Miller worshiped at the Epworth United Methodist church in Marion, Ohio and the William Street United Methodist Church in Delaware.

He is  survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosalie and their two children Nancy (Cindy) Miller of Lindenhurst, IL., and David (Laura) Miller of Delaware, OH; and two grandchildren Jacob Miller of Delaware, OH., and Katy (Paul) Kitchen, of Columbus, OH; one brother, Paul Miller of Clearwater, FL.; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Miller.

Visitation will be held at Willow Brook Christian Village South, 100 Willow Brook Way S., Delaware on Wednesday from 3pm – 5pm with a short memorial service to follow.
