Willie Lee Allen was born on March 19, 1923 to the late Will Allen and Carrie Hatcher Allen in Thomaston, Alabama. Willie was the oldest of nine children born to this union.
Willie met and married Tempie Gragg on August 23, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. To this union one daughter, Wilma Lee Allen was born. After her birth the family moved to Ohio.
Willie worked as a floor supervisor at Marion Bronze where he retired. He was an active member of the Marion branch of The Elk Lodge.
Willie accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He became and remained an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the Usher Board. Willie loved football (with the Cleveland Browns being his favorite team), baseball, and children. He loved to tell us the story of the old days here in Marion.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory; one daughter, Ruth Covington of Alabama, two grandsons, Darrell Moorehead of South Carolina and Lorenzo Moorehead Sr of Colorado, two great granddaughters, Antranishia (Donald) Norman and Shatuesday Moorehead, two great grandsons, Darrell J Moorehead and Lorenzo Moorehead, 3 great great grandsons, Xavier M Norman, Brallon Moorehead, and Tobiah Moorehead, one great great granddaughter Mildora Moorehead, three brothers, George(Stella) Allen of Alabama, David (Alice) Allen of Illinois, Warren (Rebecca) Allen of Alabama, two sisters, Carrie (Louis) Harrell of Florida and Margaret (George) Bennett of Alabama, and five sister-in-laws, Emma, Alice, and Flora Allen, Matilda Gragg Hayes, and Cory (Henry) Redmond, two brother-in-laws John (Nina) Gragg and James(Willie Mae) Gragg, host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Willie also leaves to cherish his memory longtime caregivers, Dorothy Henson, Dionne “Dena” (Jon) Davidson, and Thomas “Tony” Polk.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Tempie G Allen, daughter Wilma L. Allen Moorehead, two sisters, Lula King and Daisy Todd, and three brothers, John Allen, Jonah Allen, and Jose Allen.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church starting at 10 AM to 11 AM. The funeral service will be at 11 AM with Bishop Gregory Drapery officiating. Burial will follow service at the Grand Prairie Cemetery.
