Carol Lee Carbetta, 82, of Marion

Carol Lee Carbetta of Marion passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 23, 2016.

Carol was born in Mansfield, Ohio on May 26, 1933, to the late Charles Blust and Lucille Parker Blust.  She grew up in Mansfield, graduating from Mansfield Senior High School in 1951.

Carol’s musical talent was recognized at an early age.  At six-years-old, she began formal piano studies with Marguerite Hall, a Peabody Conservatory Master. Carol performed extensively throughout her high school years, but most enjoyed accompanying and playing for her family. She completed two years of study with the Sherwood Conservatory of Music Community Affiliate Program.

Upon graduating from Mansfield Senior, Carol took an office position with IBM. On November 21, 1953, Carol married Benny Albert Carbetta, also of Mansfield, at St. Peter Catholic Church.  She taught piano lessons until 1958, when their first daughter Angela Carol was born.  Two years later, daughter Kelly Maria was born. Carol and Benny moved to Marion in 1963.  A year later, son Benny Carbetta completed their family.

Carol was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marion. She was active for many years in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program, welcoming new members into the Catholic faith.  Carol also volunteered at Marion Catholic High School and played the piano at school events.  She was a Girl Scout leader and a music advisor to Sing Out Marion.  Scores of young people, now grown, still recall Carol’s open heart, compassion, and wisdom.

Once Carol’s children were older, she worked part-time as an education consultant and sales representative for Field Enterprises.  In 1977, Carol took a position as a night auditor at the L&K Motel, retiring in 1996.

Carol loved musical theatre, enjoyed reading mystery novels and biographies, and was an avid student of history.  She also enjoyed writing short stories, mostly about family life.  Carol, an only child, loved being part of Benny’s big Italian family.  She adored her mother and father-in-law, and was very close to Benny’s eight brothers and sister, and all of their spouses.  She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

Carol is survived by her husband, Benny Carbetta; their three children, Angela, Kelly (George Jonson), and Benny; six grandchildren, Leah, Jessica, Anthony, Toni, Mary, and Carlo; and four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Thaddeus, London, and Bodhi.
