Donald W. Ferrell of Marion, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday February 17, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Delaware County January 29, 1919 to the late Joseph H. and Mazie (Casto) Ferrell.
On August 23, 1947 he married Norma J. Parker in New Rome, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister; Rae, Nola Bettice, Earl, Cecile, Herbert, and Willard Ferrell.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years and three children; Peggy Ferrell, Dr. Jerry (Karen) Ferrell, and Dr. Kelly (Janice) Ferrell, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Don worked at various employments, mostly sales and route work, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
A Marine Corp. Veteran of W.W. II, he served as crew-chief in an Amphibian Tractor Battalion, and saw action in the Marshall, Guam, and Okinawa Islands. On Okinawa he located brother Herb serviving with his U.S. Army Tank Corps. While stationed at nearby Camp Pendleton, Universal studios of Hollywood, temporarily attached twenty some Marines with Don in their production of “Gung- Ho !”
Funeral services will be held on Monday February 22, 2016 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home, Marion, at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Mike Fogle officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Visitation hours will be on Sunday February 21, 2016 at the funeral home from 2 to 5 P.M.
