Dwight “Don” Whetro, age 74 of Marion, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Dwight was born on January 3, 1942 in Marion, Ohio to the late Donald and Cora (Moore) Whetro. He married Patricia Young on October 22, 1966 in Marion, they have enjoyed 49 years of marriage.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and a stepmother, Clara Moore Whetro, and a brother John Whetro.
Dwight is survived by his wife: Patricia “Pat” (Young) Whetro; daughter: Tammy (Steve) Oehler of Marion; two sons: Mikel W. Whetro and Donald L (Angela) Whetro of Noblesville, IN; a brother William “Bill” (Betty Jo) Whetro of North Platte, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Don worked 24 years as a locomotive machinist for the Erie Lackawana RR, in Marion, OH; the C&O RR, in Louisville, KY; the B&O RR, Huntington, WV; and the L&N RR. In Brewster, OH. He retired from Personix where he managed the warehouse in Indianapolis, IN.
He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was also stationed in Korea and Germany. He enjoyed hunting with his buddies, sons and son in law. But his greatest love was fishing.
He walked his daughter down the aisle and danced with her at the renewal of her wedding vows 25 years later and danced every other fast dance with his granddaughters. He had a ball. Don will truly be missed by his family and friends.
