Evelyn M. Wixtead, 93, of Marion

Evelyn M. WixteadEvelyn M. Wixtead, age 93 of Marion passed away February 21, 2016 unexpectedly.

She was born December 26, 1922 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Clarence”Toby” and Irene Lowery.

On October 7, 1941, she married the love of her life, Robert Wixtead and together they raised four children. In helping her husband on the family farm, she was often seen driving the tractor, gathering eggs to be delivered to the local super markets, working in her flower garden and baking delicious homemade raspberry pies.  A woman of faith, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Evelyn was known for her kind-hearted, gentle personality and loving smile who cherished every minute of life with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her four children: Susie (Larry) Yirga, Kay (Bob) Rush, Bill (Laura) Wixtead and Becky (Dan) Gilliam; six grandchildren: Julie (Arlin) Park, John (Jennifer) Yirga, Kris (Dan) Easley, Derrick (Kelly) Gilliam, David (Ami) Gilliam, Adam Wixtead and finance Libby Bender; nine great grandchildren: Abbi (Jeffrey) Crawford, Megan Park, Jack Yirga, Kade and Colin Easley; Carly, Kenley, Lyla Gilliam, Alyssa Gilliam; and her sister Clara Cooperider.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Karen and Wesley Schertzer, and Kim Basel Yirga; a great grandson, Charles Yirga; and siblings: Martha Kerns, Mary Gorenflo, and Dick Lowery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Gunder/Hall/Snyder Funeral Home from  4-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Church, Thursday, February 25 at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wesley and Karen Schertzer Scholarship fund or The Kim Basel Yirga Scholarship fund, in care of Gunder/Hall Snyder Funeral Home.
