Fannie Marie Wine, 87

Fannie Marie WineFannie Marie Wine went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 19, 2016. She was blessed with a loving heart as big as all outdoors, a spunky determined spirit and a wicked sense of humor to match. Fannie will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, friendly neighbor and endearing, faithful friend. She will be so missed by her family and many, many friends. She was truly a great Lady, a one of a kind for sure. Everyone who met her and knew her, loved her deeply…and she loved them back in full measure.

Fannie came from humble beginnings. She was born on April 28, 1928 in Kenova West Virginia. She and her three brothers, two sisters and step sister were raised by her single Mother Essie who taught her how to love, live, learn and make her way in the world. Fannie was an A student, avid actress and a world-class tuba player upon graduation from West Kenova High School. At five foot, three inches tall and 90 pounds, she and the tuba were nearly equal partners.

Her Mother moved the family to Columbus, Ohio where her and her two sisters met a handsome young sailor home on leave on the train. Fannie played hard to get, smiled sweetly, flashed her brown eyes and one out over her sisters and captured his heart. Therein began an enduring partnership, as Fannie and Eddie Wine were married on July 14, 1947 and remained husband and wife for 64 years until his passing in 2012. They worked hard, had fun, raised a family, traveled the world and were surrounded by friends.

Fannie loved life and all the people that were part of it. She was a self-taught musician on the guitar, violin, piano, autoharp and her favorite harmonica on which she was still belting out tunes to the very end. She was a green thumb gardener, passionate golfer, talented artist and avid fisherman who had to be pulled off the lake at the end of the day. Fannie loved to sing. She was very active in the choir, prayer circle and many, many activities at her beloved Epworth United Methodist Church where she was immersed in faith, fun and friends.

Fannie was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Wray, her Mother Essie Chandler, her three brothers Jim, Ray and Melvin Church and her sisters Thelma Davis and Mary Parsons and step-sister Myrtle Skaggs.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Dennis and Treva Wine of Greensboro, North Carolina and Ron and Melissa from Dayton, Ohio. Fannie also is survived by her two grandsons Troy and Scott Wine and granddaughter Erica Wine all of whom she deeply loved.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Epworth United Methodist Church 249 E. Center Street, Marion, Ohio immediately followed by a service of celebration of Fannie’s wonderful and full life in the sanctuary. Burial will be held at Marion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family also encourages donations to Epworth United Methodist Church.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to be serving Fannie’s family and condolences may be expressed to the family at www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
