Martha B. Thomas Cattani, age 82, of Marion, died Friday evening, March 25, 2016, at Primrose of Marion following a sudden illness.
On February 8, 1934, Martha was born in Marion, Ohio, one of nine children of the late Jesse Albert and Clara Josephine (Jones) Thomas, and a twin with Margaret Fisher.
For thirty nine years, Martha worked at the Timken Company in Bucyrus, working her way up to the quality control department, until her retirement in 1996.
Martha will be fondly remembered as a hard working, strong and independent woman, who kept a meticulous home and lawn. She was an excellent cook and baker, who enjoyed spoiling her children and grandchildren with their favorite dishes.
Very crafty, Martha loved to decorate cakes for the many weddings and birthdays of her family and friends. She also enjoyed making ceramics, and doing cross stitching and needlepoint. Over the years, she enjoyed many travels throughout the United States too, with Colorado one of the places she appreciated most.
Most important of all to Martha was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them…especially her beloved grandchildren. Also, she always felt blessed to share life with her twin sister, Margaret.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children: June Rox of Mansfield, John (Susie) Gamble of Marysville, and Jeffrey (Paula) Gamble of Marion; eleven grandchildren: Todd (Cathleen) Rox, Tonia (Andy) Studer, Amy (Mike) Lancaster, Taura (Mark Collard) Gamble, John Christopher (Ivy) Gamble, Joseph Gamble, Corey (Candy) Gamble, Wendi (Rich) Snyder, Laura Stephens, Rick Stephens, and Ashley (Justin) Gruber; fifteen great-grandchildren: Hannah Rox, Chase and Piper Studer, Emme and Elle Kaiser, Thayne and John Aidan Reinhardt, Claudia and Cassidy Gamble, Macie and Eli Snyder, Abby Stephens, Kyler Hobbs, Avery Stephens, and Cole Gruber; a brother, Howell Thomas; two sisters including her twin, Margaret Fisher, and Gertrude (Ed) Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Skip Rox; four brothers: Albert, John, Paul and Gerald Thomas; and a sister, Mary Shaffer.
Her family will greet friends from 1 – 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow there at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gary Brugger officiating. Burial services will then be observed privately by her family in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Bible Church, 193 Marion-Williamsport Rd. E., Marion, OH 43302.
