Franklin M. Dennis, 98, of Marion

Franklin M. Dennis, age 98, of Marion, died peacefully on Thursday evening, March 31, 2016, at the Kingston Residence.

On March 17, 1918, Franklin was born in Butler, Ohio, one of two children of the late George and Lillian (McClure) Dennis.  He graduated from Mt. Gilead High School.

Shortly following graduation, Franklin enlisted to serve his beloved country in the United States Navy, a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He served aboard many battleships, most significantly the USS Maryland.

Franklin married his first wife, Wanda Rose, in 1942.  Together they lovingly raised two children: Carmen and Lawrence.  She preceded him in death on April 6, 1969.

Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Franklin began working at the Whirlpool Corporation in Marion.  He worked there as a supervisor for twenty five years, until his retirement in 1979.

A man of deep faith, Franklin was member of the Green Camp United Methodist Church in Green Camp.  He also served as a council member in Cardington, where he also served on as a trustee for their cemeteries.  He was a member of the American Legion of Cardington, and of the USS Maryland Association.

Getting a second chance at love, Franklin and Martha Loyer were married on October 7, 1972, in Waldo.  They shared a special relationship for thirty seven years.  She preceded him in death on March 27, 2010.

Left to cherish his memory are his two children: Carmen Bagley and Lawrence (Lucy Ely Pagan) Dennis; grandchildren: Mollie (Dan) Bangert, Mark (Kim) Dennis and Bryon (Nicole) Dennis; uncle of: Bob Huddle and Susan Merlock.

Including his wives and parents, Franklin was preceded in death by his sister, Maribelle Huddle and granddaughter Julie Bagley.

His family will greet friends from Tuesday April 5, 2016 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM.  Services honoring his life will also be held there on Wednesday at 10AM with Pastor Josh Freshour officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in Marion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
