Barbara A Way, 81, formerly of Marion

Barbara A WayBarbara A Way, age 81 of Oak Harbor and formerly of Marion went home to the Lord on Tuesday May 18, 2016 at Parkcliffe Community in  Northwood after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Barbara was born one of two children in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Harold and Fern (Fulton) Clark on March 7, 1935.

Barbara married the love of her life James H. Way on October 7, 1953. Together they shared a life of love and commitment to one another until her husband’s death on May 26, 2009.

While living in Marion both were active members of St. Mary Church and could often be found volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. Prior to retirement Barbara worked  in the office of Dr. Merritt K. Marshall, was secretary to the president of Great Lakes Charcoal and as a secretary at Marion Towers. Barbara and Jim spent many years at Marine City Marina in Marblehead where they enjoyed fishing, boating and socializing with friends and family. Playing cards, Dominos’ and eating out was their favorite pastime when they weren’t fishing. Barbara could always be counted on to make the best sandwiches for a day on the lake. Christmas or Thanksgiving at Barbara and Jim’s meant a warm fireplace (no matter the temperature outside), wonderful food, hugs and kisses for all, topped off with love abound. They created memories for them and their family that will live forever in our hearts.

Barbara moved to Oak Harbor in 2010 to live with her niece Diana (Ric) Powers and great niece Amber Rogers when she could no longer care for herself or stay alone. Occasionally over the years as her mind would struggle with memories or words she would hear an Elvis Presley song and suddenly softly sing the entire song. It was at those times she would say “I miss Jim”.

In addition to her husband Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons, and brothers James L. Clark and William Davis.

Barbara is survived by nieces Diana (Ric) Powers, Jayme (Clark) Morris and nephew Richard Clark. Several great and great great nieces, nephews and cousins. One special cousin Phyllis Spires was very dear to Barbara.

Friends may call from 9:30AM-10:30AM at St. Mary Church Marion Saturday, May 21, 2016. A 10:30AM Mass will be celebrated by Father Thomas Buffer. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s honor to Parkcliff Community 3055 E. Plaza Dr. Northwood, Ohio 43619. ATTN: Business Office.
