Edward E. “Smiley” Murphy, 88, of Marion

Edward E. “Smiley” MurphyEdward E. “Smiley” Murphy, age 88 of Marion, went to be with His Lord on Saturday May 14, 2016 at the Presidential Center in Marion, Ohio.

He was born on January 4, 1928 to the late Harley C. and LaVina (Shetler) Murphy in Marion, Ohio.  On October 31, 1965 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, he married his devoted wife of 50 years, Phyllis R. (Blair).

Smiley was a career salesman. Borden Milk Co. in the 50’s, Montgomery and Ward in the 60’s, Pennington Bread Co. in the 70’s, Marion Furniture in the 70’s and 80’s, J. C. Penney in the 80’s, and Nu-Supply 90’s retiring from there in 2001. During his career, he became a radio personality named, Smilin’ Ed ! Known for a booming voice and of course that Smile!

Smiley loved singing and dancing; praying and rejoicing to the Lord.  He was a religious man to heart.  He was proud of being a Christian.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Phyllis Murphy; two daughters: Gina (Kevin) Benjamin and Michelle (Bob) Hopkins; two sons: Michael (Courtney) Murphy and David (Susan) Ross; five grandchildren: Jessica (Mark) Warner, Zachary Hopkins, Ian Hopkins, Liam Murphy, Connor Murphy: two great grandchildren: Mackenzie Warner and Trent Warner all of whom will miss their Papaw very much.

A Memorial Service will be held to honor Edward “Smiley’s” life on Thursday May 19, 2016 at 6:30 pm with a dear friend, Shawn Anthony, officiating at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.  Friends and Family can come for visitation starting at 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the funeral home.  Donations can be made to the family in care of the funeral home and/or Heartland Hospice.  Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.boydbornfuneralhome.com.

He loved his family very much and will be missed by many. He has been described by many as a “great man”.
