Robert Lee Sanderson, 75, of Marion

Robert Lee SandersonRobert Lee Sanderson, age 75, of Marion, died Thursday morning, May 19, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family.

On January 3, 1941, Bob was born in Union County, Ohio, the youngest of seven children of the late Walter Sr. and Flora (Riley) Sanderson.  He attended Essex Elementary and Richwood High School.

For many years, Bob worked as a metallurgist in several foundries, retiring from Eljer’s Plumbingware in Salem, Ohio.

Bob was a member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge in Kenton, and was a 32⁰ mason with the Valley of Youngstown, Ohio, and Blue Lodge in Marion, Ohio.

In addition to being a loving husband, Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Indians fan.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 35 years, Marilyn Sanderson; a son, Ronald; a daughter, Kristina; three step daughters: Jennifer Alwood Pinkerman (David) of Marion, Kathleen Stultz (Russell) of Kansas City, MO, and Suzanne Larson (Jeff) of Papillion, NE; a step-son, Stephen Smith (Erin) of Columbus; five grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Beckley of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Robert was preceded in death by five siblings: Walter Jr., Richard, and Harold Sanderson, JoAnn Herrington, and Dorothy Hopkins.

His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, May 23, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, with masonic services following at 7 p.m.  Services honoring his life will also be held there at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, with Pastors Therese Lehman,  Joe Miller and John Capper officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Camp Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Scholarship fund at Prospect Street United Methodist Church in Marion.
