B.F. Borders dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather died peacefully in Marion, Ohio on June 8 at the age of 87.
B.F. is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty, his children and their spouses, Brenda and Steve Estes of Marion, and Brad and Sarah Borders of Columbus. B.F. was blessed with five grandchildren who will miss his unique humor and loving attention; Josh (Kelly) Estes and Michel (Briana Piggott) Estes, of Columbus, Zachary Estes, of Marion, and AJ and Claire Borders of Columbus; and one great grandson: Liam Estes. He is also survived by siblings and several nieces and nephews; Sam Borders, Mabel Cantrell, Pete (Irene) Borders, of Marion; Betty Sue (John) Ewing, of Fairborn. He is preceded in death by siblings; Hagar Borders of Fairborn; Hearl Borders and Mearl Borders of Salyersville, Kentucky; Mearlene Borders and Johnny Borders of Marion.
B.F. was born on May 24, 1929 in Cyrus, Kentucky to Coy and Okie Borders. He served honorably in the United States Army as part of the Third Armored Division from 1951 – 1953. He married Betty Rice on April 3, 1954. B.F. and Betty lived in Salyersville, Kentucky until moving to Marion in 1965. Once in Marion, they established an active and loving home with his family and neighbors. He worked at Clark Metal Products for over twenty-seven years. Throughout his career, B.F. was the model of dedication and work ethic. He never missed an opportunity to work extra hours and built a wonderful life for his family. B.F. was also a committed father who made it a priority to be present in the lives of his children. He never missed a recital, game or school function, no matter the location or expense. After retiring in 1992, B.F. continued to enjoy a busy life, gardening, wood working and helping his friends and family in any way he could. He was a role model husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend.
A skilled craftsman, B.F. could build or fix anything. He had a sharp sense of humor that was constantly on display, and he loved to talk and debate sports and politics, especially the Reds, Bengals and Ohio State. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
Calling hours are scheduled from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday June 12 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday June 13 also at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
