Walter Rinehart, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 19, 2016. He was born in Washington Township, Morrow County, Ohio on January 19, 1927; to the late Walter Rinehart, Sr. and Gladys (Cox) Rinehart.
On June 18, 1950 Walter married Hazel Clunk. They were blessed with two children and 51 years of marriage, before her passing on April 12, 2002. Walter was fortunate to find love again and was married on October 10, 2008 to Carol Stambaugh-Yost, who survives.
Walter is also survived by daughters Lynn (Mark) Ballenger of Columbus, Kim Sharrock of Howard; step-son Dan Stambaugh of Marion; grandchildren Michelle (Randy) Stone of Richmond, KY, Olivia (James) Davis of Sunbury, Jennifer (Scott) Compston of Marion, and Brandon Levings of Cary, NC; great grandchildren Katherine Stone, Noah Stone, Joshua Stone, Keaton Davis, Bryce Compston, Zadok Stone, and Alyssa Stone; brothers Dale (Connie) of Galion, Evert (Ina) of Ostrander, and Wayne (Bert) of Galion; sister Sharon (David) Doty of Millersburg; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Hazel and his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabell Ehrman and Evelyn Rinehart.
Walter graduated from Martel High School in 1947, where he was active in music and track. He was a self-employed Contractor for 45 years, building many homes in the Marion area. He was a member of the Green Camp Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He enjoyed decorating the church for Christmas, Easter, and the Fall Festival. He was on the 4-H Advisory Council for three years, President of the Green Camp Lions Club for two years, 50-year Golden Sheaf of the Bethlehem Grange, and President of the Ohio Gourd Society for eight years. He and Hazel showed and demonstrated their gourds all over Ohio. He and Carol continued to grow and decorate their gourds after they were married and they enjoyed wintering in Texas, where they decorated and sold beautiful bird houses.
The funeral service will be at Green Camp United Methodist Church, with Pastor Josh Freshour officiating, 11:00 am Thursday, June 23, 2016. Friends may call Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 5-8 pm at the church, and Thursday from 10am -11am until time of service. Burial will be in the Green Camp Cemetery, following the service. Arrangements are being handled by Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
