Willis D. (“Bud”) Young, age 89, of Marion, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born in Ashley, Ohio on August 17, 1927, to Henry P. and Rose (Lanum) Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Maxine Brown Young; and two sisters, Frances Foust and Betty Lowther. Survivors are his wife Anna Kegg Young; sons Rockie Young and Mark Young, stepdaughters Brenda McElroy and Karen Ward, and spouses; eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 10 great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister Jean Wood; and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was a Seaman First Class 1944-1946 and served in the Pacific. After returning to central Ohio, he and Maxine married and moved to Marion, where they raised their sons. Bud worked for Marion Power Shovel Company and then for the Erie Railroad, where his career began during the transition from steam to diesel. He was an engineer at the Erie and its successors, retiring after more than 40 years of service. His family enjoyed hearing his many stories about the work and the people he encountered. Bud was an active member of the American Legion Post 0584 for over 23 continuous years.
Friends may call at Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home (360 E. Center Street, Marion), on Saturday, September 3, 2016 beginning at 10:00 a.m.; the funeral will be held at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. with Chaplain Doug Ford officiating and Military Honors being presented by The Marion County United Veterans Council. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Big Island.
