YMCA Swim Teams Win Meet, Break Records

On Saturday, October 13th the Marion Family YMCA Swim Team hosted the Marion Invitational. While this was the first year the YMCA’s Swim Team has hosted an invitational swim meet in October, the teams won the meet and individual swimmers broke several records.

The meet featured 223 swimmers representing 9 different teams in the Northwest Ohio YMCA Swim League. The Marion Family YMCA won the meet on both the girls and the boys side, beating out Francis Family YMCA and Ft. Meigs YMCA.

“Our athletes swam well this weekend” said Aquatics Director Evan Shanley. “We had a lot of new kids who competed in their first meet Saturday, and they swam very well. All of our returning kids swam well also. It was great to see so many of our kids down near their personal best times!”

The Marion Family YMCA also set 6 new team records on Saturday. Ashton Cole broke the 13-14 girls 500 Free record with a time of 5:52.44. Madison Linstedt set the 11-12 girls 400 IM record with a time of 5:41.96. Rachel Shipp broke the 15-18 girls 200 backstroke record with a time of 2:25.77. The 15-18 relay of Rachel Shipp, Linsie Zhang, Erin Zmuda & Natalie Dunham set the girls 400 Medley Relay record with a time of 4:36.58. The 13-14 relay of Erin Zmuda, Madison Sharp, Jess McCombs & Linsie Zhang set the girls 400 Free Relay record with a time of 4:12.88.

The Marion Family YMCA is next in action on Saturday, October 20th at the YMCA. The meet starts at 12:15, and admission is free.
