A four run second inning helped Toledo come away with a 6-2 win over Columbus at Fifth Third Field.
The bottom of the second was a disastrous inning for Columbus. Ben Guez got Toledo started with an RBI single. Gustavo Nunez also contributed during that inning with an RBI single. Bad defense capped a forgettable inning for the Clippers when a Nate Spears throwing error allowed two more runs to cross the plate. By the time the inning was over, the Hens possessed a 4-0 lead.
Juan Diaz got Columbus on the board with an RBI single in the top of the fourth, but the Mud Hens got that run back with a Danny Worth RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Nick Castellanos also had an RBI single to push the Toledo advantage to 6-1.
Columbus’ Jeremy Hermida plated a run with an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth. Other than that, Toledo lefty Kyle Lobstein (W, 3-2) held the Clippers in check for six innings, striking out seven during his outing. Carlos Carrasco (L, 3-1) suffered his first loss with Columbus in 2013.
The Clippers and Hens will meet again on Monday night. Lefty T.J. House (4-10, 4.69) will get the start for Columbus while Jair Jurrjens (0-0, 5.40) makes his second start for Toledo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
