Clippers Shutout Bisons 9-0

The Columbus Clippers (42-38) beat the Buffalo Bisons (40-38) 9-0 Thursday afternoon. After being swept in a doubleheader Wednesday the Clippers bounced back thanks to solid offense and tremendous pitching by Zach McAllister.

McAllister (3-0 1.48 ERA) dominated Buffalo. He went seven and one-third innings and allowed no runs on just three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. He retired 14 in a row during the outing. Deck McGuire (3-3, 4.95 ERA) had a quality start, but took the loss with McAllister’s game. McGuire went six innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

For the third straight game the Clippers struck first. In the second inning Roberto “RoboCop” Perez led off with a solo homer, his eighth. “El Jefe” Jesus Aguilar added on with a two-run homer in the third and gave Columbus a 3-0 lead. The homer was the 12th for Aguilar.

Columbus scored three unearned runs in the game thanks to two errors committed by the Bisons.

McAllister’s great start was much needed as the Clippers emptied the bullpen against the Bisons in game one of the doubleheader Wednesday.

The Clippers continued the trend of winning games when homering. Columbus is 28-16 in games when hitting a home run.

Every Clipper reached safely in the win and eight of nine starters had a hit.

The final game of the series for the Clippers and Bisons will be 7:05 p.m. Friday night.
