Clippers Sweep Bats with 6-3 Win

The Columbus Clippers (46-39) swept the Louisville Bats (43-42) with a 6-3 win Tuesday night. Columbus won both games of a two-game series at Huntington Park. The second game was called due to rain in the seventh inning.

Zach McAllister (4-0, 2.08 ERA) had another quality start in the Clippers win. He went six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with no walks and a season-high nine strikeouts. Brett Marshall (0-4, 12.94 ERA) struggled against Columbus. He surrendered six runs on seven hits in four innings and failed to record an out after coming out for the fifth. Marshall also walked four with four strikeouts.

Louisville struck first in the second inning. Rey Navarro and Tucker Barnhart each singled with two outs to set up a two-out RBI single by Steve Selsky.

The Clippers then rallied in the third. Tim Fedroff started the inning with a double to right-center field. Jose Ramirez walked with one out and watched Tyler Holt tie the game with an RBI single. “El Jefe” Jesus Aguilar doubled to the gap in right field and gave the Clippers a 3-1 lead. Giovanny Urshela then lined a pitch to left that left the park for a two-run homer.

The Clippers added another run on an RBI single by Urshela in the fifth inning.

The Clippers scored 16 runs in the two games and lead the IL in runs with 413 scored in 2014.

Three Clippers had hit streaks longer than five games ended in a game that ended before Columbus’ seventh inning at bat. Ramirez went 0-2 with two walks and ended his season-long hit streak of nine games. Roberto Perez was 0-2 with a walk to end his streak at eight. Carlos Moncrief’s seven-game hit streak ended with his 0-3 game.

Columbus hits the road for two against the Toledo Mud Hens before returning to Huntington Park Friday. First pitch is 7 p.m. with Kyle Davies (4-5, 3.59 ERA) on the mound opposite of Robbie Ray (4-3, 2.87 ERA) for Toledo.
